Summary Description:

TrailerCraft/Freightliner of Alaska is currently looking for mechanics to join our rapidly growing Service team. We are seeking experienced Heavy Duty/Medium Duty Truck Chassis Techs, Diesel Engine Techs and Sprinter (Mercedes Benz) Techs. Experience and /or certifications with CAT, Detroit, or Cummins preferred.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:


Service Department Operations:

  • Repair heavy and light duty equipment such as engines, transmissions, clutches, brakes, air conditioning, electrical trouble shooting, perform DOT inspections, change oil, etc.
  • Maintain and enhance mechanical technology knowledge.
  • Track job time on in-house business system via a repair order.
  • Document all repairs and pertinent information in regards to the work performed. Complete a story on the repairs.
  • Tag and document all warranty items appropriately.
  • Fill out parts requisition forms for all parts requests
  • Keep work area clean
  • Work with service advisors to provide best service to customer
  • Help other techs when needed
  • Follow up on parts orders

Customer Service:

  • Provide excellent customer
  • Talk to customers about technical issues

Other Duties – As Assigned:

  • Up-sell work whenever possible.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Current Alaska driver’s license
  • Complete on-line classes and instructor led training for all products

Physical Demands:

  • Noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
  • Occasionally required to bend, stoop, crouch, reach and handle tools.
  • Occasionally requires the ability to lift 120 pounds of material.
  • Frequently required to walk to all areas of the facility, both indoors and out.

Working Conditions:

  • Frequently works near moving mechanical parts.
  • Is potentially exposed to battery acids, gasoline, chemical cleaning materials or other toxic materials commonly found in a motor vehicle service department.
  • Occasionally exposed to exhaust fumes or airborne other particles.
  • Frequently required to walk to all areas of the facility, both indoors and out.

Position Responsibilities:

  • – All types of light, medium and heavy duty engine repairs.
  • – Engine diagnostics and troubleshooting
  • – Engine overhauls, in-frames and out of frames
  • – Electrical repairs and diagnosis
  • – Knowledgeable on multiple engine makes and models
  • – CAT, Cummins, Detroit
  • – Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop and working area
  • – Own their own tools

Position Qualifications:

  • 5+ years general repair experience
  • ASE certification a plus
  • Experience with Cat, Cummins, or Detroit engines
  • Certified training on any or all major engine manufactures
  • Proficient with all computer software for diagnostic purposes
  • Have a CDL or be willing to obtain one
  • Flexible and quick in learning, attention to detail
  • Able to work overtime as needed
  • Able to travel for field work if needed
